Farewell to the Arlington Bees
Tom Hafer, captain of the Arlington Y team in Div. 2
(formerly known as the B League), has announced the
club's withdrawal from league competition, marking the
first time in 20 years that Arlington will be missing
from both the A and B leagues. Most of Arlington's top
players have migrated to other clubs, to play on
international courts. The Arlington Y remains one of the
few outlets for Washington's hardball players, but is
under increasing pressure to upgrade their courts'
playing surfaces and lighting. In a parting statement,
Hafer commented, "I have participated in the NCSRA
leagues for over 20 years at all levels, and have enjoyed
it immensely. I can remember the days when Arlington was
a squash power, including a series of dedicated
top-flight pros and multiple in-house tournaments. I have
personally participated on league-winning D, C and B
teams." Thanks to Tom for mentoring so many players
through Arlington.
