Howe Cup Teams Have Hoot of a Time
Three NCSRA based teams competed in the A and B leagues of the 2004 Howe Cup.  After some slow starts the teams rallied to provide respectable finishes with the lead B-team closest to making the finals. As usual the Howe provided great squash entertainment, whilst the fine company and Manhattan setting provided plenty of fun in-between times.  Congratulations to all the ladies for representing their region with distinction and Connie Barnes for herding the cats in putting the three teams together.
Results of the 2004 Hoew can be found in here.

Chaloner snares a Lucky Nick
Englishman Mark Chaloner, who is ranked 18 in the world has won the 2004 McFaddens' Lucky Nick. He toppled Renan Lavigne 3-2 in a riveting squash final at the SCLA. Jay Warshaw won the 5.5 and Greg Rind took out the juniors.

Cardinal Fall '04: Harrity's Triumph Veiled in Sadness
Tom Harrity, the reigning national champion, and Bryce Harding, the #3 player in the country who fought through the field with a 3 day cold under his belt, met in the final of the Cardinal Fall with Harrity prevailing 3-1. With the event safely over, the squash community was devastated by the news that its Cardinal Over-40 champion and good friend, Marcus Rosenlehner, had suffered a massive stroke the following Tuesday and was fighting for his life.   Our thoughts are with Marcus and family.

Charman Conquers the 2004 Summit
(March 2-7 2004)  A month before the Summit things were not going well.  It looked like financial losses might exceed $10,000, ticket sales were in disarray, and no hotel deal was in place.  When the tournament ended, we were breaking even, the stands were full and everyone was talking about doing it again next year.  Who turned things around?  A lot of people helped.  We had a great team of volunteers who readily took on critical tasks and carried them through to completion with virtually no guidance.   We also had some great sponsors – people who chipped in some big bucks to make the Summit possible, but the key ingredients came from Sports Club/LA, Kositzka, Wicks & Co., and Connie Barnes. In the end Washington hosted one of its best tournaments at the highest level. See here for more details on the 2004 Summit..
