Schedule for the semi-final and final matches at Sports Club/LA

At the conclusion of the winter NCSRA League season, the Fisher Cup Championship is held to determine the top individual players among those who have participated in each league. Invitations to participate in the tournament are sent to 16 players in each league.  At least one player from each team (generally the top player) is selected, and then the best other players are chosen to round out the field.  While the goal of the tournament is to identify the best individual league player it is also to encourage camaraderie amongst NCSRA members and reward those that have supported the league throughout the season.

The format for the tournament is a series of 4-player box matches where the top 2 players advance to the next round

·         The first round  will be held  the week of April 4th on the regularly scheduled day of the league.

·         The second round  will be held  the week of April 11th on the regularly scheduled day of the league.

·          The semi-finals will be held Saturday, April 16th at Sports Club/LA

·         The finals will be held Sunday April 17th at Sports Club/LA

One of the other differences between this and most other tournaments you may have participated in is:  it is by invitation only and it is free.

The Cup was established in memory of Geff Fisher, a squash entrepreneur and visionary who died suddenly and tragically in the early 1990’s.  He created the first junior programs in Washington, DC beginning in the late 1970's.  Geff was a key developer of commercial squash in the area.  He served on the board of the NCSRA for many years.  He was a Squash Teaching Pro first at the Merrifield Athletic Club in Northern VA and later at the Regency Sport and Health Club in Mclean.  He is survived by his wife Lonnie, who was his business partner in squash. In 1992, NCSRA renamed the annual NCSRA Squash Championships to honor Geff (and Lonnie) and the many contributions he made to squash in our area.
